The complete step-by-step guide to setting up your NFC Google review tap tag — from unboxing a tag that's already pre-programmed with your review link, to testing the tap and the QR backup, to troubleshooting the most common issues.

You set up an NFC Google review tap tag by testing the tap and the printed QR backup, then placing it where a customer has just had a good experience — there's nothing to program yourself, because it arrives pre-loaded with the Google review link you gave us at checkout. Tap it against a phone to confirm your Google review page opens, then put it at your checkout counter, reception desk, or bill folder. The rest of this guide covers unboxing, testing, and fixing the handful of issues that trip up first-time users.
What Comes in the Box?
Every order includes the tag itself, a printed QR backup, and an optional adhesive mount.
- 1x NFC tap tag (credit-card sized), pre-programmed with the Google review link you supplied at checkout
- 1x QR code printed on the tag as a fallback for phones with NFC switched off or blocked
- 1x optional adhesive backing so the tag can also sit as a counter-top sticker or stand
How Do You Find Your Google Review Link Before Ordering?
You get your Google review link from your Google Business Profile's 'Ask for reviews' screen, and you give it to us at checkout.
Sign in to your Google Business Profile at business.google.com with the account that manages your listing.
Open the business you want reviews for.
Choose 'Ask for reviews' (sometimes shown as 'Get more reviews').
Copy the short link Google shows — it starts with https://g.page/r/ — and give us that link at checkout.
If your listing hasn't been verified yet, 'Ask for reviews' may not appear. Finish Google Business Profile verification first, then come back for your link.
How Does the Tag Work Once It Arrives?
The tag opens the exact g.page/r/ link you supplied at checkout the instant a phone taps it — there's nothing to write to the chip yourself. If you later need the tag to point somewhere else (a new location, a rebrand, or a different Google Business Profile), that's what the editable-link add-on is for.
What's the Difference Between the Editable Link Add-On and a Standard Tag?
The editable-link add-on lets you repoint the tag to a new review link at any time; a standard tag stays fixed to the link it was programmed with.
How Do You Test the NFC Tap?
You test it by holding your phone against the tag for about a second and confirming your Google review page opens.
Make sure NFC is switched on: Settings → Connected devices → NFC on Android; on iPhone 7 through X, open Control Centre and tap the NFC reader icon. iPhone XS and later read NFC tags automatically from the lock screen, no Control Centre needed.
Hold the top of the phone against the centre of the tap tag for about a second.
A notification should appear — tap it to open your Google review page in the browser.
Confirm it's your own listing and that Google's star selector is showing.
How Do You Test the QR Code Backup?
You test the QR code the same way a customer would: open the camera app and scan it, then confirm it lands on the same review page as the tap.
Open the native camera app — no separate scanner app is needed on iPhone or Android 10 and later.
Point it at the QR code on the tag until a banner appears.
Tap the banner and confirm it opens the same Google review page as the NFC tap did.
Where Should You Place the Tag?
Place the tag wherever a customer has a natural pause right after a positive experience.
- Reception desk or checkout counter — a natural pause point for retail, salons and clinics.
- Restaurant bill folder — placed next to the payment slip.
- Handed to the customer directly by a team member at the moment they express satisfaction.
- Attached to a mobile tradesperson's invoice folder or clipboard for on-the-job reviews.
What Do You Do If the Tag Doesn't Work?
Most tap issues come down to a phone case, NFC being switched off, or a metal surface blocking the signal — and the QR code fixes nearly all of them in the meantime.
- Nothing happens on tap → a thick or metal phone case is blocking the signal — try removing the case, or hold the tag against the bare back of the phone.
- Nothing happens on Android → NFC may simply be switched off; check Settings → Connected devices → NFC.
- Nothing happens on an iPhone 7, 8, X, or XR-era model → open Control Centre and tap the NFC reader icon before tapping the tag; iPhone XS and later don't need this step.
- Weak or inconsistent reads near metal counters, tills, or shelving → metal surfaces reduce NFC range; use the printed QR code instead in these spots.
- The customer's browser opens but they can't post a review → they need to be signed in to a Google account on that device first.
- The link opens the wrong listing → the wrong review link was given at checkout; contact support and, if you have the editable-link add-on, you can also correct it yourself from your dashboard.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to program the NFC chip myself?
No. A standard order arrives pre-programmed with the Google review link you gave us at checkout. Only the editable-link add-on lets you change the destination later, and that's done from your dashboard rather than by writing to the chip.
How do I get a Google review link for my business?
Sign in to business.google.com, open your profile, choose 'Ask for reviews', and copy the short g.page/r/ link Google generates. Give us that link when you place your order.
Why isn't my Google review page opening when I tap?
The most common causes are NFC switched off in phone settings, a thick or metal phone case blocking the signal, or an iPhone 7–X that needs the NFC reader opened from Control Centre first. Test with the printed QR code to rule out a link problem.
Can I change where the tag points later?
Only if you added the editable-link option at checkout — that lets you update the destination from your dashboard at any time. Without it, the tag stays linked to the URL it was printed with.
Does the QR code open the same page as the tap?
Yes. The QR code is printed as a fallback for phones with NFC switched off or blocked, and it points at the same Google review link as the NFC tap.
